West End CONNECT, Diversicare’s respite centre, is seeking to grow the Samoan social respite group.

Diversicare’s West End CONNECT hosts over 200 attendees every month, with a different cultural group meeting nearly every day.

Currently, the Samoan respite group meets once a month. The group enjoy outings to local parks for morning tea and share lunch at a nearby RSL or tavern.

Diversicare’s lifestyle assistant, Kerry Turner says it would be lovely to see the numbers of the Samoan group grow.

“Our current attendees are very excited to create awareness of the Samoan respite group to members of the Samoan community, we love receiving feedback from our clients.

“It is lovely to see friendships forming between our respite clients, we encourage those interested parties to contact Diversicare for more information.”

Language barriers are not an issue for Diversicare’s respite activities as specific home care workers assist where interpretation is required.

Diversicare’s General Manager, Vivienne McDonald says Diversicare’s bilingual carers represent up to 45 different languages including Samoan, Mandarin, Spanish, Cantonese, Dutch, Croatian, Hindi and Vietnamese.

“We endeavour to accommodate the specific language requirements of our many culturally diverse clients to ensure accessibility to all social and wellness services Diversicare offers.”
