Volunteer visitors
What makes our volunteers special is that they are from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds (CALD) and in turn specifically support socially isolated people from the same cultural and language backgrounds.
The visits are relaxed and social in nature. The recipient and their visitor chat together, share a cup of tea or take a walk around the garden.
Regular visits by volunteers enhance the quality of life of people by providing them with company and friendship.
Our visitors aim to establish a one-to-one relationship with recipients through culturally and linguistically appropriate contact and reconnecting them, where possible, with their community. They may read ethnic newspapers to the recipient or write letters to overseas or interstate family and friends.
Currently Diversicare has volunteers from a wide cross-cultural background including Russian, Croatian, German, Cantonese, Polish, Korean, Vietnamese, Spanish and Danish.
